A blogger over at ZDNet realized that he could cancel part of his cable, order his shows on iTunes, watch movies on Netflix and save $300 a year...
***
Let's see I pay about 50 per month for cable tv...
- 600.00 per year
- 154.64 per year for Netflix (2006 - look at your billing activity)
- 100.00 per year for movies in the theater (10 matinee + small popcorn)
------------------
- 854.64 for TV and movies!
(Netflix averages about $2.50 per movie if you return asap)
I'd love to drop my extended cable for standard cable and then just buy my sci-fi
- 154.64 per year Basic cable (channels 1-33 or something like that)
- 194.76 per year Netflix (2 movies at a time "unlimited")
- 100.00 per year for movies in the theater
- 19.99 per season Dresdin Files from iTunes
- 34.99 season of BSG frm iTunes
- 37.99 last season of SG-1
- 37.99 season of SG-A
- 19.90 10 episodes of Dead Zone
- 29.99 season of Monk...
- 28.99 season of Psych
---------------------
- 659.24
I dont think its a good idea for me. I will miss a lot of content from FX, TNT, TBS, USA, SPIKE, and AMC (+plus the history channnel. Its probably a good idea if you subscribe to Digital Cable and additional packages. Of course I could torrent much more... To think I wen t 4 years or something without TV.
I probably wouldnt actually buy Dead Zone, Monk and Psych... I watch them now and I'd miss them. But there is other programming.
You could also supplement this with borrowing TV and movies from the library. I wonder if a mailbox service is feasible for the library.
